KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 — A receipt showing an additional charge of RM15 for “vomit clean-up”  of contaminated plates and glasses at a nasi kandar restaurant here was posted on Facebook as a joke, said the boyfriend of the person who posted the picture.

He told Star Online his girlfriend had posted the receipt’s picture with the intention of sharing a good laugh because it was the first time they had ever been charged that way.

“We paid RM15 to Nasi Kandar Pelita without any complaint whatsoever," he reportedly said.

"We had a good laugh over it until we found out that the post went viral,” he said on Facebook yesterday, adding that it was not his girlfriend who threw up.

According to Star Online, a group of people, who were reportedly drunk, were charged RM15 for clean-up costs after two of them threw up on the table.

Pelita Samudra Pertama (M) Sdn Bhd, director Datuk Sihabutheen Kirudu Mohamed was reported as saying the restaurant had charged the group because the plates and cutlery had to be thrown away after the customers vomited on them.

"There was a possibility of alcohol contamination and hygiene issues. We’ve had many incidents like children vomiting without imposing clean-up charges," said Sihabutheen.

"But having been in the food industry for almost two decades, we cannot allow our reputation to be tarnished by negligence. Hygiene is our top priority,” he reportedly said today.

The posting of the receipt issued at 5.06am yesterday went viral, with many netizens commenting against the charge.

Later, a manager of the restaurant lodged a police report at the Dang Wangi police station, alleging that the Facebook post was malicious.

He claimed that six drunk people had gone to the restaurant at about 4am and while eating, two of them threw up on the table.

He also stated that other customers were disgusted and the restaurant decided to dispose the contaminated plates and utensils.
