ALOR SETAR, Nov 16 — Langkawi International Airport will be expanded next year to increase its passenger handling capacity from the current 1.5 million passengers to 5 million annually, the Kedah State Assembly was told today.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said RM14 million had already been allocated for the purpose under the Rolling Plan 2 (RP2) of the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK11).

“Apart from this, for 2017 also, the Federal government has also approved three major road projects under the RP2, RMK11 worth RM937.16 million overall,” he said when winding up debate.

The projects involve upgrading Jalan Alor Setar-Kangar, Jalan Sungai Petani-Baling and a new route linking Jalan Datuk Kumbar to Jalan Tun Razak/Jalan Langgar). — Bernama
