KUANTAN, Oct 14 — A police corporal who was believed to be under a lot of stress has fired 10 shots into the air behind Kuala Krau police station in Temerloh, near here, yesterday.
Pahang police deputy chief Datuk Azri Ahmad confirmed the incident happened at 3.30pm yesterday, before the corporal who joined the force since 2005, was about to start his duty for the day at 4pm.
“He fired shots into the air but no injuries were reported. After the incident, he left his weapon behind before fleeing to Jerantut to calm down.
“However, he surrendered himself at noon and was then taken to Temerloh for investigation,” he told Bernama when contacted here, tonight.
Azri said the investigation is conducted under Section 39 of the Firearms Act 1960 for firing shots in public area.
He added that the corporal, who was transferred to Kuala Krau police station since last year, is now placed under police surveillance.
It is understood that before the incident, he was informed that his name had been out for transfer and he also allegedly smashed the windscreen of a car belonged to his superior. — Bernama
