KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — A ship technician pleaded not guilty in the High Court, here, today to two charges of encouraging membership to a terror group and allowing related gatherings to take place.

Nor Hafizy Che Meh, 39, was charged with encouraging membership to the Islamic State (Daesh) terror group. The offence was allegedly committed at house No. 6846-F, Lorong Kemboja, Kampung Melayu Subang, Selangor between December 2013 and October 2015.

The father of three was also charged with allowing gatherings related to the terror group to be held at the same place and during the same period.

The charges under Section 130G(b) and Section 130H(a) of the Penal Code provide for a jail term of up to 30 years and a fine, upon conviction.

Judge Datuk Azman Abdullah set Oct 14 Oct for case mention. DPP Mohamad Mustaffa P. Kunyalam appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by lawyer Mohd Fadhly Yaacob.

Last June 8, Nor Hafizy was charged in the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court with committing the offences and the case was transferred to the High Court as the offences come under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (SOSMA) 2012. — Bernama
