KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — A man who ran off with the daughter of his former lover was detained by police yesterday evening.

Kuala Langat police chief Supt Zailan Tasir said the man in his thirties was held following a police report lodged by the victim’s mother.

“At about 10am yesterday, the man went to the girl’s kindergarten and pretended to pick up the victim.

“The man said the victim’s mother was in the car and the kindergarten teacher then released the girl to the suspect,” he said.

Zailan said the victim’s mother was only aware of the incident after being informed by her uncle at 2.15pm yesterday that her daughter had not returned home after being taken by her ex-boyfriend.

“The victim’s mother also found out about her missing daughter after a picture of the girl who was found at a guard house in USJ 2 Subang Jaya went viral on social sites,” he said.

He said police received information of the missing girl from the USJ 8 police station at about 2.30pm yesterday.

“The victim, who was still wearing the Kampung Kundang Kindergarten uniform, was brought to the police station.

“Police then contacted the man who turned up at the station to give his statement before he was arrested,” he said.

He said it was believed the man was unhappy with the victim’s mother and the case was being investigated under Section 361 of the Penal Code for taking away a child from her lawful guardian. — Bernama
