GEORGE TOWN, July 29 — The wife of former Penang Chief Minister Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon, Puan Sri Chui Kah Peng who succumbed to cancer earlier this week was accorded a funeral befitting her stature and warm personality yesterday.
Daughter Yu Jun, 27, who delivered the eulogy described her mother as not just a wife and mother but a kind-hearted person, an educator and researcher.
Expressing her appreciation to those who came during the five-day wake, Yu Jun said she was touched by the floral tributes and words of comfort.
The 65-year-old succumbed to cancer at the Gleneagles Medical Centre on Sunday, after she was diagnosed with the ailment 13 years ago.
The casket was brought to the family home at Cascadia Apartments in Jalan Cantonment, Pulau Tikus, where Malaysians from all walks of life paid their respects and offered condolences to the bereaved family.
Politicians, representatives from non-governmental organisations also paid their last respects.
International Trade and Industry Minister (II), Datuk Seri Ong Kah Chuan, was the official representative of the Federal Government, while Penang Environment and Welfare Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh and Dr T. Jayabalan represented the state government.
Also present was former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, his wife Tun Jeanne Abdullah, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, several former and serving ministers and deputy ministers.
Members of the Cabinet and a host of relatives accompanied the cortege to the Batu Gantung crematorium
The cortege, was accompanied by Chung Ling High School and Penang Free School marching bands, from Pulau Tikus for the final rites.
