GEORGE TOWN, July 25 — Former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his wife Tun Jeanne Abdullah paid their last respects to former Penang chief minister Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon on the death of his wife, Chui Kah Peng, 65.
Abdullah and his wife arrived at Koh’s family residence at Cascadia, Pulau Tikus, here at 5.15pm today.
Abdullah had known Koh since his time as a minister in 1982 when Koh was just starting to be active in politics.
Eventhough both of them had retired from politics, the strong bond between the former comrades was still as strong as ever.
“We had talked on many issues and our wives on the other hand had strong ties with each other even while we were still in politics. My deepest condolences to him and his family,” he said.
Abdullah and his wife left the residence at about 7.10pm as they would be flying back to Kuala Lumpur.
Gerakan president and Teluk Intan Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Mah Siew Kong accompanied by Gerakan vice-chairman Oh Tong Keong also paid their respects to Koh.
They arrived at about 8.25pm at the residence and left at 9.45pm.
“Koh was our former leader, someone we highly respect and we hope he will stay strong. Our prayers will always be with him through this tough times,” he said.
Also present during the wake were Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and the DAP entourage consisting of state excos, assemblymen and members of parliament.
Lim and other DAP members arrived at about 7.40pm had left Koh’s residence at about 8.10pm to attend another function at Masyarakat Penyayang.
Chui passed away early yesterday morning at 1am at Gleaneagles Medical Centre in the presence of close family members after a 13-year battle with cancer. — Bernama
