KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 ― The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will question officials from three government departments over management weaknesses highlighted in the Auditor-General’s (A-G) 2015 Report released today.

PAC chairman Datuk Hasan Arifin named today the Immigration Department, the National Disaster Management Agency (APBN) and the Sabah Water Department as the three agencies on the top of its list.

“We will call them in as soon as possible.

“We look at the priority and importance for the people like in immigration and disaster management,” he told a news conference at Parliament.

He said the parliamentary oversight panel will be investigating the implementation of the Malaysian Immigration System (myIMMS), management of the construction and reparation of homes for displaced flood victims and Sabah’s water supply to its interiors.

The online airport screening system was introduced 20 years ago but has been experiencing questionable breakdowns, putting the country’s security at risk as some travelers may be entering or leaving undetected.

The Rompin MP said he was pleased that the 2015 federal audit reports had come in early this year.

“This is a good achievement that the audit report is out before the Budget. Normally it is very difficult for a state government or agency to provide reports before June, but now it is only May.

“That means they’ve got a good system in reporting and management of the accounts. Even companies can't do that sometime,” he added.

Hasan also said the audit report showed a cut in management and development spending, which he asserted proved Putrajaya was running the country well.

“The expense for management and development is RM216,997 million and RM40,767 million compared to RM219,589 and RM39,503 million in 2014,” he said.

He said the A-G had told PAC that Malaysia's debt-to-GDP ratio for 2015 was at 54.50 per cent, which is RM630,540 million compared to the RM582,828 million in 2014.
