KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 ― An electrical contractor was fined RM3,600 by the Ampang Magistrate's Court here today for hurting his wife and daughter after he got angry when told to take a shower.

Magistrate Mohamad Izwan Mohamed Nor handed down the sentence to P. Ganesan, 47, after he pleaded guilty to causing hurt to his wife, M. Kalaiarasi, 47, and his daughter, G. Hemalatha, 22, last Saturday.

He was fined RM1,800 fine for each charge and was ordered to serve six months' jail if he failed to pay the fines.

Ganesan committed the two offences at a house in No 5, Lorong Permai 4/2, Taman Permai Jaya, Ampang, here between 10.45 pm and 10.55 pm.

The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code provides for a maximum jail term of one year, or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, if convicted.

According to the charge sheet, the accused's wife had allegedly told him to take a shower after he appeared to be drunk and vomited in the living room.

Ganesan, however, got angry and pushed his wife before punching her in the chest, as well as choking and punched his daughter on her neck.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Zuhaini Mahamad Amin appeared for the prosecution, while Ganesan was not represented. ― Bernama
