SHAH ALAM, Jan 25 — The Selangor Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism (KPDNKK) has issued show cause notices to two restaurants in a supermarket here for selling exorbitantly priced drinks.
Selangor KPDNKK senior assistant director Yusof Bakar said the notices were issued by a KPDNKK enforcement team at the premises during inspections under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 today.
“Both the restaurants were found to have taken excessive profits. One restaurant charged RM5.90 for an iced milo while the price of the iced milo at another outlet was RM6.70, and plain water, RM0.80.
“Under the notice, both restaurants were given one week to explain the (high) prices of the drinks they sell. We will act against them if they fail to do so,” he told reporters here, today.
In this regard, Yusof advised consumers to be cautious and careful when spending at restaurants which charged very high prices for food and drink.
In related development, he said, Selangor KPDNKK had imposed a total RM1,700 in compounds involving nine cases under the act, via Ops Catut, this year.
He said Selangor KPDNKK also received 5,987 complaints with 1,987 cases involving the Goods and Services Tax in 2015.
A total 207 notices were issued which had resulted in 28 profiteering cases including five which had been charged in court last year, he added. — Bernama
