KANGAR, Nov 14 ― The existing Malaysia-Thailand border fence should be retained and any new agreement on the matter should be reviewed, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim.
“If the government want to tear down the existing border fence, they need to take into account the specifications and costs involved.
“If they still want to build fence, build a second fence or place border stones,” he told reporters after a walkabout programme at Pasar Tani Mega Taman Sena Indah here today.
In September, Malaysia and Thailand have agreed to build a wall along their common border next year, to tighten surveillance.
Shahidan said he had proposed the matter to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“The National Security Council will look into the existing agreements and will make the decision,” he said. ― Bernama
