KUCHING, Nov 5 — Power supply to all affected areas in Kuching, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Sibu and Bintangor was fully restored almost two hours after the areas experienced power failure when the Oya-Selangau 275kV transmission line tripped at 1.31pm today.

Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) in a statement said restoration works commenced immediately after the trip, and power supply was restored progressively with parts of Sibu being the first to come back online.

It said investigation into the root cause of the outage is still on going.  “To ensure better efficiency and future reliability of the system, Sarawak Energy is making a major investment in the 500kV backbone transmission project, expected to be completed by mid-2016,” according to the statement posted on its website.

“Should the customers continue to experience power interruptions, please call Sarawak Energy Customer Care Centre at 1300883111 for immediate service,” it added.

It was reported that the power disruption also affected cellular phone coverage and caused massive jams at traffic light junctions as several traffic lights were not functioning, compelling traffic police to deploy men to control the situation in several areas. — Bernama
