PUTRAJAYA, Sept 28 — Chinese ambassador to Malaysia Dr Huang Huikang arrived here to meet with Acting Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainudin, despite earlier saying he was not informed that he has been summoned to explain a statement he made in Chinatown last week.

Huang arrived at the Domestic Trade, Consumerism and Cooperatives Ministry complex after attending a forum this morning, while Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s special envoy to China, Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting, reached the meeting earlier.

Reporters were barred from entering the meeting hall and ministry officials refused to confirm if the ongoing meeting is to hear an explanation from Huang after his speech at Petaling Street.

Reporters were informed that Wisma Putra will issue a statement on the meeting later.

Huang this morning said he only knew he has been summoned after reading newspaper reports.

During his visit to Chinatown last week, Huang reportedly said that Beijing would not hesitate to speak out against any threat that may affect the country’s ties with Malaysia.

Earlier today, Wisma Putra rejected a report that it withdrew its summon of Huang, insisting the Chinese ambassador to Malaysia must still explain remarks he made in Petaling Street last Friday.
