KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 — The police today arrested three individuals over their suspected involvement in a potential attack on several areas in the city, purportedly by the Islamic State terror network.

National news agency Bernama quoted Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim as saying that the suspects include one Malaysian, an Indonesian and a Syrian.

“Bukit Aman contacted the US Embassy and Australia on the level of safety in specific areas that were linked to potential terrorist attacks,” the DIGP said in a documentary aired yesterday.

Yesterday, news portal The Malaysian Insider reported the police were put on alert after receiving credible information on a terror attack on the city, believed to be as retaliation over the arrests of several militants from the Islamic State network last month.

The police have since increased patrols in Jalan Alor and nearby areas in Kuala Lumpur, and the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and Smart Traveller, the Australian government’s travel advisory site, yesterday also advised US and Australian citizens to avoid Jalan Alor and the surrounding areas.

“Yes, we are on alert. More policemen have been sent to the ground,” a police source told the news portal.
