KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — The overall air quality situation in the country remained healthy this evening with most areas recording a moderate Air Pollutant Index (API) and no areas with unhealthy readings.
According to the Department of Environment (DOE), areas recording moderate API readings increased from 32 at noon to 36 areas as at 5pm today, with the Melaka city recording the highest reading of 85.
The other areas are Kota Tinggi, Larkin Lama, Muar, Alor Setar, Bakar Arang (Sg Petani), Langkawi, SMK Tanjung Chat (Kota Baharu) and Tanah Merah (Kelantan), Melaka City, Bukit Rambai, Nilai, Port Dickson, Balok Baru and Indera Mahkota (Kuantan), Jalan Tasek and S.K. Jalan Pegoh (Ipoh), Kg Air Putih (Taiping) and Seri Manjung (Perak).
Seberang Jaya 2 (Perai), Universiti Sains Malaysia Penang, Tawau, Kuching, Samarahan, Sarikei, Sibu and Sri Aman (Sarawak), Banting, Port Klang, Petaling Jaya, Kemaman, Kuala Terengganu and Paka (Terengganu), Batu Muda and Cheras (Kuala Lumpur), and Putrajaya.
While 12 areas recorded healthy air quality, namely Jerantut, Tanjong Malim, Kangar, Perai, Keningau, Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, ILP Miri, Kapit, Limbang, Miri and Kuala Selangor.
API readings of 0-50 is categorised as good, 51-100 (moderate), 101-200 (unhealthy), 201-300 (very unhealthy) and 301 and above (hazardous).
Meanwhile, the Corporate Communications Department, Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad said operations at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2 were as usual and there were no flight delays or changes in air routes.
