KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 — A Royal Malaysian Navy personnel in Lumut was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with having a mobile telephone that contained images related to the Islamic State terrorist group.
Zakariya Ahmad, 27, of Kepala Batas was charged with committing the offence at a waiting room of the Bukit Aman Police headquarters at 9.05 am on August 19.
He was charged under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of seven years or a fine and which forfeits his right over any of the publication material, upon conviction.
No plea was recorded from Zakariya who nodded to indicate he understood the charge which was read out to him before Magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin.
The court set October 30 for mention of the case.
DPP Nadia Mohd Izhar appeared for the prosecution while Zakariya was not represented. — Bernama
