KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — A teacher has deplored her former student’s “stupidity” in risking the lives and happiness of others by taking part in a brawl at Low Yat Plaza that later sparked a bloody riot.

In a post on Facebook yesterday, the woman named Noorul Aaron denounced the youth for falling for the rumours that his friend, who has been charged with shoplifting, was purportedly cheated by a phone seller at the popular gadget mall.

“You are ever so stupid, Jimmy. Shallow and unprepared as always. You haven’t changed a bit.

“And because of that, I know how strong your sense of loyalty is. It might be just because of a story of a stupid handphone, from a stupid friend of yours, you jeopardize everyone’s life and happiness,” Noorul from SMK Taman Setiawangsa wrote, referring to what may be the youth’s nickname in school.

“I couldn’t imagine how shattered your mum’s heart now. She has been crying a whole lot, not knowing what to do thinking about her son she would soon lose,” she added.

In her heartfelt message that has been shared close to 2,000 times, Noorul said she will continue to pray for the youth.

She said, however, that his fate was now sealed.

“Half of the whole world will hate you now. The other half will use you to their benefits.”

An unemployed 22-year-old was charged today with stealing a RM800 smartphone from a shop in the mall.

According to reports, the man allegedly stole a mobile phone and was arrested together with his companion, who was later released.

The second youth is said to have returned to Low Yat Plaza later with the alleged thief’s friends, where they assaulted workers of a mobile phone store and caused RM70,000 in damage.

The commotion turned into a riot on Sunday night after racially-charged rumours that spread on social media led a crowd to gather outside the mall to demand “justice” for the youth.

The Inspector-General of Police yesterday rejected the rumours that phone traders had cheated the individual involved, and said the case was caused by the case of a youth who was caught stealing.
