KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 — Selangor residents are being made to pay by Pakatan Rakyat whose fallout now puts the state at the possible risk of snap polls, said former mentri besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim
Khalid, whose own ouster last year is seen as the starting point of the current crisis, said the three parties were disregarding the interests of the state and its residents in the pursuit of their own.
“Excessive political manoeuvring and shenanigans have again taken the priority over the wellbeing and welfare of the Selangor people,” he was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times today.
“Greed, insensitivity and lack of magnanimity all are ingredients for deep distrust, non-cooperation and finally a fallout. Sadly in the end, the rakyat are the biggest loser,” Khalid added.
Khalid was ousted as MB in the so-called “Kajang Move” that sought to install PKR de facto chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the position.
While calling on the PR leaders to live up to their claim of being “the people’s champion”, Khalid — who was sacked by PKR for refusing to vacate the post — also told three parties not to meddle in each other’s affairs.
“Intervening in internal party issues should not be the norm for any alliance or pact, what more with Pakatan,” he added.
Khalid also explained that he relinquished his post as MB last year for the “benefit of the rakyat”, as well as having a clash of ego with PR leaders which he claimed were driven by arrogance.
“During my service, my team and I spent countless hours trying to appease this group of politicians at the expense of the rakyat’s rights and interest. I could not give in to the greed and arrogance of a herd of politicians who claimed that ‘reform, equality and justice’ were their goals,” Khalid said.
DAP and PAS, have been at loggerheads for nearly a year now, with the former accusing the Islamist party’s leadership of breaking ranks in the mentri besar crisis and unilaterally pursuing the implementation of Islamic penal law or hudud in Kelantan.
PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail declared yesterday that PR will no longer function formally as a coalition, following “hasty” decisions made by DAP and PAS.
In a statement declaring the “death” of PR on Tuesday, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng blamed Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang for the coalition’s demise, saying the PAS president’s recent actions as well as the Islamist party’s decision at its congress this month to sever ties with DAP meant PR’s Common Policy Framework was broken.
PAS on June 6 confirmed its decision to sever ties with DAP while still remaining in PR with PKR, after its motion to do so was approved without debate.
