KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 — Constitutional law expert Dr Abdul Aziz Bari today laughed off a media report that he will join DAP this week.

Aziz expressed surprise at the claim made by The Star today, saying he has not received any solicitation by the predominantly-Chinese party.

“I don’t know how that came out, I have never made such a statement. This is like a joke to me, first time that i’m hearing this,” he told Malay Mail Online today.

“Nobody called me or even asked me about this. It is quite surprising that a statement like this can come out,” added the University Selangor professor who previously ran in the last elections under a PKR ticket at Sabak Bernam.

DAP’s national organising secretary Anthony Loke said he was equally clueless about the claim that  Aziz would enter his party.

“As far as Aziz is concerned, I have no idea. First time, I’m hearing something like this.

“We have not even talked about it, maybe people are trying to poach him at a personal level,” he told Malay Mail Online.

Loke added, however, that there is on-going effort in DAP to recruit more Malay personalities to help shed its predominantly Chinese image.

“We are talking to many people who are interested and who share our same ideals as well as being influential in their own fields,” he added.

On Saturday, DAP leaders made a lowkey announcement that national laureate A. Samad Said has joined the party.

The 80-year-old Malay writer and poet also said he had longed to join the DAP for the past two years.
