PENAMPANG, March 6 — A humble home in Kampung Tulangis Mahandoi here has been attracting hordes of visitors seeking to see a figurine of the virgin Mother Mary that has allegedly been shedding tears.

According to owner Michael George Bosoun, the 12-inch figurine, set on a homemade altar, was said to have started “crying” on Monday evening.

“My 14-year-old son first saw that its eyes looked wet, and when he told us, everyone was in disbelief.” said Michael.

Michael, a Catholic, told several family members and as news began to spread, the family has seen over a hundred visitors each day in the last three days.

Prayer and rosary sessions have also been held at the home since then.

The figurine was bought by his sister-in-law in the Philippines over a year ago but was kept in a cupboard while his house was being renovated.

He also told reporters that he had brought the figurine to be blessed by Archbishop John Wong last weekend.

Moyog assemblyman Terence Siambun, who visited the home, said he was spiritually moved at the sight of the figurine, which he described as “alive”.

“I looked very closely, and I noticed that its eyelashes were damp. There doesn’t seem to be a logical explanation. The whole figurine, just seemed alive and brand new, even though it’s been with the family for over a year now,” he said.

“I sense this is some sort of miracle, not an ominous sign. I feel quite lucky to be able to see such a sight. It has a very peaceful aura around it,” he said.

Church authorities have been told of the “phenomenon” and will be visiting the family and the figurine tomorrow.
