IPOH, Feb 9 — A man has been remanded for seven more days over the investigation into the case of a Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) student who died after her throat was slit at the North-South Expressway near Bukit Gantang on February 2, according to police.

Taiping Police acting chief Supt Ismail Che Isa said today Taiping Lower Courts assistant registrar N. Mageswari extended to Feb 16 the remand order on the 25-year-old man.

“We have yet to record statements from witnesses and need to inspect the telephone bills of the suspect to complete the investigation papers,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Student Nursyuhada Johari, 20, had her throat slit while she was in a Proton Perdana car with a man as they drove south on the highway on Feb 2.

They were said to have been quarrelling in the car and when the vehicle stopped at Km228.2 of the highway, Nursyuhada alighted from the driver's seat and collapsed onto the road.

The man then tried to drag her to the left of the road but fled into some undergrowth when he realised that several motorists had stopped to find out what was going on.

The man returned to retrieve his mobile telephone and was caught by several motorists and handed over to the police.
