GEORGE TOWN, Nov 28 — Police are still waiting for the post-mortem report to identify whether the body found without its head and arms in a gunny sack at a canal in Jalan Kampung Permatang, Sungai Bakap yesterday is linked to a head found in Bukit Mertajam on Monday.          

Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said an autopsy on the headless and armless body was expected to be conducted by Penang Hospital pathology specialist Datuk Dr Bhupinder Singh tomorrow.         

“The post-mortem on the head of a man found in Taman Impian Ria, Bukit Mertajam was carried out on Wednesday and now police are waiting to match it with the headless body,” he told reporters here today.          

On Monday, a package containing a human head was found beside a pillar near a restaurant in Taman Impian Ria, Bukit Mertajam that was believed to have been placed there by two unidentified motorcylists.          

Yesterday, the headless and armless body found in a gunny sack by villagers at 5.30pm in a canal at Sungai Bakap, was believed to have drifted until it got stuck at by the river bank.

Abdul Rahim said the police had yet to identify both body parts and called on people with information on the incident to contact the nearest police station to assist with information.          

Meanwhile, he said there were 51 cases of murder with 33 cases involving foreigners reported in Penang to date this year.          

“From the total, 17 cases involved Myanmar nationals and police investigation found most of them resulted from quarrels at workplace, drunkenness and debts,” he said. — Bernama
