JAKARTA, Oct 21 — The number of hotspots in several areas across Indonesia is decreasing, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said today.
The agency said as of 7am local time today, no hotspots were reported in Sumatra and Kalimantan islands where the highest number of hotspots was detected, Indonesia’s Antara news agency reports.
“The number of hotspots must be falling due to the approaching rain. Apart from that we have been deploying helicopters to extinguish forest fires,” said BNPB spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho.
On October 17, a total of 130 hotspots were detected across Sumatra island, a significant rise from 66 sighted earlier.
Four hotspots were detected in Riau province, three in Bengkalis and one in Meranti islands’ district among the 130 hotspots. — Bernama
