KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 — Police arrested six suspects including four Nigerians and seized 13.5 kilograms of syabu worth about RM2.7 million, in two separate operations on Tuesday and yesterday.
Bukit Aman Narcotic Criminal Investigation Director Datuk Noor Rashid said following public tip offs and close joint monitoring with the Customs Department they had managed to foil several attempts to smuggle drugs via courier service companies.
In the first operation last Tuesday, police arrested three Nigerian students when they raided a courier company in Sri Damansara, Petaling Jaya between 3.30 pm to 6 pm.
“In the raid, 7.04 kilograms of drugs believed to be syabu were seized,” he told a press conference at the Bukit Aman police headquarters here today.
He said following the arrest, police nabbed two local men and a Nigerian student at a courier company in Petaling Jaya yesterday.
In the raid, police recovered 6.51 kg of syabu in 17 out of the 69 bags searched.
The drugs were believed to be from China for distribution to neighbouring countries,” he said.
The suspects, aged between 27 and 44, were tested negative for drugs and are being remanded for seven days for investigation under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction. — Bernama
