KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 — Federal narcotics police scored a major success when they seized RM2.1 million worth of heroin and Ecstasy pills in three separate cases in the Klang Valley during the past week.
They arrested four Malaysians and three foreigners.
Bukit Aman narcotics chief Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the first seizure took place on Thursday when two Pakistani nationals were detained at the KL International Airport.
He said the duo, believed to be drug mules, attempted to smuggle in four packets of heroin.
“They tried to smuggle it by strapping the packets of heroin to the back of their shins. This is possibly a new tactic used by the drug mules,” he said.
The men had travelled from Lahore to Bangkok before arriving at KLIA.
“The four packets weighed 6.3kg. We believe the drug mules’ plan was
to hand over the drugs to local syndicates for distribution here,” Noor Rashid said.
The second case took place on Sunday when police arrested four people at 6.10pm near Hutan Rimba Ampang.
“Following a tip-off, we trailed a vehicle and intercepted them near Ampang. Three Malaysians and a Sri Lankan national were arrested after drugs were found in the vehicle,” he said.
Noor Rashid said police found two bags containing 9,120 Ecstasy pills weighing 2.7kg, and three bags containing 8,400 Eramin pills weighing 2.3kg.
On the same day, police arrested a 39-year-old leader of a local drug syndicate in Cheras.
“After interrogating the suspect, we raided a home in Bukit Damansara and seized 9,400 Ecstasy pills weighing 2.8kg and 2kg of syabu,” he said.
Noor Rashid said those arrested, aged between 21 and 39, had been remanded for seven days under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
