KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 — Sabah lawmaker Datuk Bung Moktar Radin remains unrepentant after Germany’s ambassador to Malaysia chided him over his Twitter salute to Adolf Hitler today, insisting Holger Michael has misunderstood him.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) MP continued to mention Hitler in his tweets, even reposting one update by his follower which lauded the Nazi dictator’s ethnic cleansing of Jews during World War Two.
“Dia x faham2 [He doesn’t get it],” Bung posted in Malay on his Twitter account @MyKinabatangan this evening, in reply to a fellow Twitter user who called the Umno leader’s attention to the German envoy’s displeasure.
Germany’s ambassador to Malaysia had objected to Bung’s salute of Hitler in his praise for the country’s performance in the World Cup, saying the comparison was “unacceptable”.
In a statement emailed to The Malay Mail Online, Michael said the embassy “strongly rejects” the reference made by Bung, who said earlier today that the German team had “fought like Hitler” in the semi-final match this morning.
“If saying Hitler’s name is considered contemptible, then how about the accomplices who receive fundings from NED and Zionists to sow chaos in the country?” Bung asked afterwards.
NED refers to the National Endowment for Democracy, a US-based NGO which has previously been linked to opposition lawmakers including PKR’s Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

When another Twitter user asked about his thoughts on the ongoing bombings by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip, Bung replied: “There is no body like Hitler in Gaza... unlucky for them”.
In addition, the Kinabatangan MP also reposted a tweet which lauded Hitler’s extermination of the Jews, which saw millions killed in concentration camps.
“Hitler should have finished all the Palestine-killing tribe. Then Palestine would not be like how it is now,” said a tweet by user @Salim_Iskandar in Malay, which Bung reposted.
Bung had tweeted a salute to Hitler this morning, which led many Twitter users to chastise him. An unrepentant Bung then heaped abuse on them.
“Well done… Bravo… Long live Hitler…” the federal lawmaker posted.
Bung has since defended his tweet, saying he had only done so out of his admiration for the German football team.
Austrian-born Hitler was the leader of Nazi Germany between 1934 and 1945 and was a central figure among the Axis forces during the world war.
Hitler was also behind the Holocaust, the mass extermination and execution of millions of European Jews in concentration camps.
