KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 — A Sessions Court here has issued an arrest warrant for sex blogger Alvin Tan Jye Yee for failing to surrender his passport after leaving for Singapore on May 18.

According to The Star Online, the warrant was issued by Sessions Court judge ‎Abdul Rashid Daud after he allowed an application by deputy public prosecutor Haffiza Jemeli today.

The court also fixed July 18 to determine if Tan should be allowed bail, the daily reported.

Earlier this year on May 12, Abdul Rashid had granted Tan's and Vivian Lee May Ling's application to have their passports temporarily released to shoot a documentary film on

their lives in Singapore.

The couple was reportedly allowed to retain their passports between May 18 and June 3. Lee surrendered hers on June 3, The Star Online reported.

Both Tan and Lee, known to the public as "Alvivi", were charged last July 18 for three separate offences under the Film Censorship Act, Sedition Act and Penal Code.

On April 21, however, the couple won a legal victory when they succeeded in getting the charge of causing religious hostility stemming from a mock Ramadhan video last year dismissed.

The Court of Appeal ruled that Section 298A of the Penal Code was not applicable to the duo as they were non-Muslims.

Section 298A includes a variety of offences, namely causing “disharmony, disunity, or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will, or prejudicing, etc, the maintenance of harmony or unity, on grounds of religion.”

Tan and Lee still face a charge under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act for publishing a seditious photograph and the words "Selamat Berbuka Puasa" (dengan Bak Kut Teh...wangi, enak, menyelerakan!) [Happy breaking fast with bak kut teh...fragrant, delicious, appetising]" on their Facebook page on July 11 that also showed a halal logo.

They are also in the dock for a second remaining charge under subsection 5(1) of the Film Censorship Act 2002 for displaying pornographic images on their blog, alviviswingers.tumblr.com, between July 6 and July 7.

The couple had first courted controversy over the videos and photographs of their sexual exploits that had been posted on a now-defunct blog.

The blog is now defunct, but their Facebook page, Alvin and Vivian - Alvivi, remains active.
