GEORGE TOWN, May 11 — Two roads at Padang Kota Lama area will be closed in conjunction with the nomination process for the Bukit Gelugor Parliamentary by-election tomorrow.

Timur Laut district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said Jalan Tun Syed Barakbah and Jalan Padang Kota Lama would be fully closed to all vehicles starting from 7 am until the process was completed.

Lebuh Farquhar and Lebuh Light will be made into a one-way road that is diverted to Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling to facilitate traffic in the vicinity of Dewan Sri Pinang, being used as the nomination centre.

“The DAP candidate and party supporters are scheduled to gather in Jalan Tun Syed Barakbah while the group from the independent candidate is allowed to gather in Jalan Padang Kota Lama and march to enter the area through Lebuh Duke,” he told reporters here today.

He urged members of the public, who were not involved in the nomination process, not to use these roads to avoid congestion.

The Bukit Gelugor seat fell vacant following the death of its incumbent Karpal Singh (DAP) in a road accident last April 17.

The Election Commission has set May 25 for the by-election and early voting on May 21. — Bernama
