KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 — The smearing of blood on pictures of Pakatan Rakyat leaders and a call for physical violence against DAP MP Teresa Kok was deplorable despite the latter’s video satire, Wanita MCA said today.
The women’s wing of the second-largest Barisan Nasional (BN) component instead urged those aggrieved by the Seputeh MP’s 11-minute video lampooning current affairs to allow authorities to do their jobs.
“Wanita MCA condemns and is against the offering of cash reward up to RM1,200 for slapping Kok and the smearing of chicken blood on the banner bearing Pakatan Rakyat leaders’ portrait,” Datuk Heng Seai Kie, the movement’s chief, said in a statement today.
“Such an emotional protest will only make things worse and it will not help to resolve the issue at all.”
Yesterday’s event in the centre of the city saw a group calling itself the “Council of Islamic NGOs” slaughter live chickens in their protest against a satirical Chinese New Year video by Kok, after which they proceeded to smear the blood on a banner with images of DAP and PKR lawmakers.
The banner also warned of “nightmares” of May 13, 1969, in reference to the bloody racial riots of that year.
The group also reportedly incited physical violence against Kok, offering members of the public cash rewards for assaulting her.
The six Muslim groups alleged to have been involved in the protest are Pertubuhan Permuafakatan Majlis Ayahanda Malaysia (Permas), Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam dan Dakwah (Pekida), Pertubuhan Kebajikan Insan Bakti Malaysia (Perkib), Persatuan Pengguna Islam Malaysia (PPIM) and Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia (MJMM).
Kok and other PR leaders lodged police reports this morning over yesterday’s protest.
Today, Heng urged authorities to hasten their investigations into the incident and urged Malaysians to stay calm.
“I hope that the police will complete its investigation as soon as possible so that justice can be delivered and leave the innocent chickens alone,” she said.
