KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 – The toll fee on a 16.5km elevated highway linking Seri Kembangan to Maju Expressways (MEX) will only be decided when the RM90 million project is completed in two years’ time, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said she was confident that the government would impose a reasonable toll charge after negotiating with the concessionaire.

“Once the project is completed, the government to fixt the toll fee, it might be lower that the proposed RM2.20,” she said when replying to Dr Ong Kia Ming (DAP-Serdang) in the Dewan Rakyat today.

She took Ong to task for implying that the proposed RM2.20 charge was the Barisan Nasional (BN) government’s punishment to Selangor residents for voting the opposition in the 13th general election.

“Your honourable should thank MCA leaders for fighting for the project, instead of making a baseless accusation,” she added.

On the status of the project, she said the developer was in the process of acquiring private land while clearing work was carried out on government land.

Once completed, the highway will provide direct access to MEX, the capital, Bukit Jalil, Putrajaya and the KL International Airport, via various elevated ramps from a junction in Jalan Putra Permai, Seri Kembangan.

Users of the highway will have to pay a toll charge to travel to and from the capital while there is no charge to and from Putrajaya. – Bernama
