CYBERJAYA, Dec 4 — A new chapter begins for Volvo Car Malaysia with the official launch of the all-new XC90 in the Malaysian market. The XC90 is the first Volvo built on the new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) modular chassis technology, and it comes not only with Volvo’s renowned world-leading safety features, but also comes with an advanced plug-in hybrid powertrain that delivers an unrivalled combination of power, fuel efficiency, and low emissions.

In design, the all-new XC90 paves the styling direction of Volvo’s upcoming generation of new models. It is the first Volvo to carry the company’s new more prominent iron mark, which has the iconic arrow elegantly aligned with the diagonal slash across the grille. Together with the T-shaped “Thor’s Hammer” DRL lights, the iron mark introduces an entirely new, distinctive face for Volvo’s forthcoming generation of cars.Adaptive Cruise Control with Pilot Assist enables safe semi-autonomous driving by automatically following the vehicle ahead in stop-and-go traffic.

First 100 units of the XC90 come fully imported, but the allocation has already been sold out, meaning that customers ordering one today will have to wait for locally-assembled variants that will become available in 2016.

The sole variant of the XC90 on offer in Malaysia is the range-topping T8 Twin Engine, which receives Volvo’s most powerful powertrain offer for the SPA platform. The T8 Twin Engine utilises a combination of a 4-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor with a total power output of 407hp and 640Nm of torque, whilst still delivering a combined fuel consumption of 2.1l/100km and CO2 emissions as low as 49g/km. The Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine goes from zero to 100km/h in only 5.6 seconds. What’s more, with a full charge of its batteries, the XC90 T8 Twin Engine is capable of cruising purely on electric power for 40km.

Standard safety package for the XC90 T8 Twin Engine will include two world first safety technologies: a run-off road protection package and auto brake at intersection capability. These innovations will form part of a suite of safety features that will make the all-new XC90 one of the safest cars ever made. The XC90’s fine interior is further enhanced by standard specification of Inscription trim for the Malaysian market with Nappa leather seats, Orrefors handcrafted gear lever and diamond-cut controls.

Existing Volvo safety features under the City Safety umbrella are retained as standard kit as well. Its standard auto brake function now covers vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians in front of the car, day and night. Adaptive Cruise Control with Pilot Assist enables safe and comfortable semi-autonomous driving by automatically following the vehicle ahead in stop-and-go traffic, whilst Park Assist Pilot now also offers automatic reversing into a parking bay. If you wish to do it yourself, the 360 Surround View system generates a birds-eye view on the central monitor to guide you.

Inside, the XC90’s interior is the most luxurious to have been designed for a Volvo. The most striking feature is a tablet-like touch screen control console, which forms the heart of an all-new in-car control system. This system is virtually button free, a simplicity that opens up generous surfaces and gives us the opportunity to create a modern, luxurious interior architecture. The XC90 T8 Twin Engine is priced very competitively at a recommended retail price of RM453,888.00 (on-the-road price without insurance, inclusive of six per cent Goods and Services Tax).
