NEW YORK, Sept 1 — The first footage from 2015 game "Firewatch" offers exploration, danger and a narrative hook.

Delivered as part of a panel talk at the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, the debut trailer for "Firewatch" whets appetites for next year's PC, Mac and Linux game.

Alumni from award-winning studios Telltale Games ("The Walking Dead"), Double Fine ("The Cave"), Klei Entertainment ("Mark of the Ninja") and 2K Marin ("BioShock 2") are among those working on the forest exploration title.

Another member of the team provided the soundtrack for housebound mystery "Gone Home," one of whose supporting characters was involved in forest conservation, just as with the "Firewatch" protagonist.

Players inhabit the world of Henry, a fire lookout based in the wilds of Wyoming, and one whose ambiguous relationship with his radio supervisor Delilah shapes the experience of the game's first trailer.

Capable though he may be, Henry's not a gung-ho hero, throwing caution to the wind. "I don't think we're safe. This job's not safe," he appeals. "Do people die out here?"

"Just stay in your tower, OK?" advises Delilah. "Stay in there ... and watch." But if the trailer is anything to go by, Henry's not the type to stay put.
