KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 — Chong Wei Feng plans to leave Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) next year.

However, the 28-year-old said that will only happen if he fails to book a spot for the Rio Olympics next year.

“My chances for Rio are tough and they’re getting harder for me,” he said.

“But leaving BAM is not the end as I’m considering to play for clubs.

“Badminton is something I’m good at as I’ve been in the game for the 10 years. I won’t simply retire,” he said yesterday.

Chong said to avoid leaving BAM, he needs to be in top form for his final two tournaments of the year.

“If my ranking is still not enough, I need to play in more tournaments next year for points.

“I haven’t planned my schedule for next year yet.”

Chong is suffering from a bad run of form in recent weeks, after his early exits at both the French Open and the Bitburgen Open in Germany last week.

The two tournaments Chong will compete this year are the Hong Kong and Macau Opens.

Chong is ranked 33rd on the Badminton World Federation’s Rankings.
