KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 8 — The National Film Development Corporation (Finas) said that they consider the leaking of the movie Dukun on the internet as a serious issue and will be working with several bodies to handle cases such as this.
“Previously, Finas has already taken important initiatives alongside the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) and Malaysia Film Producers Association (PFM) in forming a special committee to fight against digital piracy as a synergy between associations to solve the uploading of cinema movies on the internet by irresponsible and unethical individuals.
“However, we need further information since it violates copyright and intellectual property. Finas hopes that users are aware that sharing and uploading pirated materials on the internet is against the law,” said Director General of Finas, Datuk Fauzi Ayob, as quoted by Harian Metro.
Datuk Fauzi also hoped that all related parties will cooperate in the efforts of suppressing the growing cybercrime.
At the same time, director of Dukun, Dain Said, admitted that he had no idea about the leaked movie as he had been at a location with no internet coverage.
However, he did not elaborate on the topic as he has already long ago moved on from the movie.
Meanwhile, Najwa Abu Bakar, representing the movie’s producer Astro Shaw, stated that she will not comment on the issue as it is still under investigation.
The movie Dukun (2007) is a film adaption of the high-profile murder case involving politician Datuk Mazlan Idris and Mona Fandey, who was claimed to be a black magic user.
However, the movie was banned by the Film Censorship Board (LPF) of Malaysia as it was deemed offensive to the family members of the people involved in the case.
The movie features actors such as Datin Umie Aida, Hasnul Rahmat, Faizal Hussein, Namron, Bront Palarae, Adlin Aman Ramli, Nadiya Nisaa, Deana Yusof, Chew Kin Wah and more. — CinemaOnline
