NEW YORK, June 7 ― Having broken through in Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond, Sofia Boutella is joining an HBO film adaptation of sci-fi thriller Fahrenheit 451 opposite Michael B. Jordan (Creed) and Michael Shannon (Man of Steel.)

Taking place in a dystopian future where those that read banned books face the prospect of having all their possessions burned as punishment, Michael B. Jordan plays Montag, a government arsonist, and Michael Shannon becomes Beatty, his supervising officer.

Sofia Boutella is to play Clarisse, whose precise role differs according to which previous version of Fahrenheit 451 we're talking about.

In the original Ray Bradbury novel, Clarisse is a teenager whose family has just moved next door to Montag's house. In Bradbury's stage play, as well as the François Truffaut film, Clarisse is instead a young schoolteacher.

What's more, Truffaut's Clarisse was actually played by the same person who portrayed Montag's wife, Julie Christie.

Adding further intrigue, Deadline's report about the Boutella casting describes Clarisse as "an informant caught between Montag and Beatty's competing interests."

Either way, both previous versions of the character prompt Montag to question his own outlook and that of the society around him, with dramatic consequences.

Ramin Bahrani directed Shannon and Andrew Garfield in 99 Homes and helmed the Ég anda music video for post-rock band Sigur Rós.

Sofia Boutella next appears as the title character in Universal Pictures monster movie The Mummy, opening this week of June 9, and then in action film Atomic Blonde in July. ― AFP-Relaxnews
