LOS ANGELES, Aug 6 ― After reviving David Brent in a YouTube appearance last year, Ricky Gervais will return to the character yet again, this time on the big screen. The new movie will be a spin-off of the British TV series, which went off the air close to 15 years ago.
The BBC announced that production will begin next year on the spin-off, which is titled “Life on the Road.”
Created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, “The Office” arrived on the BBC in 2001. Aired for just two seasons in the UK, the series quickly achieved cult status and even attracted a strong international following. Filmed as a mock documentary on office life, the comedy was adapted for US TV in 2005 with Steve Carell in the lead role. A ratings hit, the American version remained on the air until 2013.
In “Life on the Road,” Ricky Gervais will reprise his role as the sales manager David Brent, who is now working at a cleaning products company but still has dreams of making it big as a rock star. The movie will follow his self-funded tour across the UK. ― AFP-Relaxnews
