LOS ANGELES, March 4 — The Wachowskis are working on plans for a new trilogy in the “Matrix” series, according to an insider rumour.
The Latino Review carries the rumour, reminding readers that new entries to the “Star Wars,” “Star Trek” and “Independence Day” franchises had all been vociferously denied by studio reps after stories broke on fan sites.
One early outline is thought to investigate how the computer-controlled human enslavement Matrix came to be.
It’s a scenario that had already been touched on in “The Animatrix,” a companion collection of animated shorts, where two-part prequel “The Second Renaissance” was based on a Wachowski-written comic book.
Warner Bros’ perceived studio interest makes sense from the point of view that Disney has “Star Wars VII” going into production for an end of 2015 release, and Fox is expected to distribute a trio of new “Avatar” films in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
In addition, the “Terminator” name is no longer under Warner’s control, so revisiting a rise of the machines scenario is no longer such a hard sell — witness WB’s own Johnny Depp picture “Transcendence” which is tracking for an April release. — AFP-Relaxnews
