LOS ANGELES, Jan 21 ― Ahead of the premiere of “Black Sails” on January 25, Starz is hoping to win over the first fans of the show by allowing them to stream the first episode for free through its website.
Produced by Hollywood director and producer Michael Bay (“Transformers”), “Black Sails” will focus on Captain Flint and his men, characters from Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure novel “Treasure Island.”
The plot will take place around two decades before the action in the novel. Flint and his quartermaster John Silver will strive to preserve New Providence, an island in the Bahamas that has become a refuge for pirates of all kinds throughout the 18th century, a golden age for pirates.
Starz has already renewed the yet unaired series for its second season, a rare occurrence in the TV world. The eight episodes of “Black Sails” Season 2 are scheduled to air in 2015.
Following their success at the box office, namely through the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, pirates seem to be making their way to American TV. Also during 2014, NBC will debut “Crossbones,” helmed by British director David Slade and starring John Malkovich in the role of Blackbeard. ― AFP-Relaxnews
