KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 — The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) opened lower today on lacklustre appetite following the weak overnight performance of Wall Street, dealers said.

The FBM KLCI opened 4.7 points easier at 1,695.61 to recover 1.01 points to 1,696.62 at 9.28am.

The index had closed 3.77 points higher at 1,700.31 on Monday on strong buying in selected heavyweights.

Gainers outpaced losers 187 to 144 with 214 counters unchanged.

Turnover stood at 166.29 million shares worth RM120.27 million.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.09 per cent or 15.82 points to settle at 17,229.13, while the S&P 500 declined 0.13 per cent or 2.55 points for 2,019.64. 

Among the actives, China Automobile, SKH Consortium and KNM Group were all flat at six sen, eight sen and 47 sen respectively, while Comintel Corp rose three sen to 57.5 sen and Palette Multimedia advanced half-a-sen to six sen.

The FBM Emas Index fell 17.45 points to 11,740.88 and the FBMT100 Index slid 18.74 points to 11,448.92 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index eased 27.14 points to 12,412.4.

The FBM 70 gained 1.18 points to 12,931.8 and the FBM Ace improved 26.18 points to 5,597.9.

Sector-wise, the Plantation Index was 7.7 points higher at 8,044.16 and the Finance Index expanded 1.68 points to 14,378.18.But, the Industrial Index declined 17.76 points to 3,272.67.  — Bernama
