KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 — Bursa Malaysia continued its modest gains at mid-afternoon today helped mainly by banking stocks despite subdued regional markets.
At 3.05pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 1.46 points better at 1,690, after moving between 1,685.08 and 1,693.07.
Gainers led losers by 398 to 365, while 353 counters were unchanged, 685 untraded and 15 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 1.41 billion shares worth RM1.11 billion.
Most regional markets were gloomy today ahead of the release of US jobs data which were expected to have an impact on the Federal Reserve’s decision on whether to increase interest rates in December.
Among heavyweights, TNB gained six sen to RM13.26, Public Bank and Axiata edged up two sen each to RM18.22 and RM6.17 respectively. However, Maybank eased four sen to RM8.34.
Of the top gainers, Petronas rose 60 sen to RM23.16, United Plantations (+60 sen to RM27), BAT (+58 sen to RM60.20) and Kulim (+57 sen to RM3.87).
The FBM Emas Index went up 25.18 points to 11,757.93, FBMT100 Index garnered 19.60 points to 11,430.83, FBM Emas Syariah Index advanced 55.43 points to 12,621.37, FBM 70 Index perked 57.80 points to 13,005.03 and the FBM Ace added 29.99 points to 6,433.87.
On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index slipped 10.93 points to 14,322.21, the Plantation Index climbed 92.99 points to 7,725.53 and the Industrial Index strengthened 16.83 points to 3,336.64. — Bernama
