KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 ― Malaysia's industrial production in July was expected to have grown thanks to rising exports of electrical and electronic products, a Reuters poll showed.

Factory output was forecast to grow 4.8 per cent from a year earlier, its highest since March, though the poll of 10 analysts showed individual estimates varied between growth of 3.1 per cent and 6.6 per cent. In June, output grew by 4.3 per cent.

Economists who forecast slowing industrial production cite weak external and domestic demand, especially as a tumble in commodity prices has cut into the nation's exports over the past year.

Malaysia's July exports grew 3.5 per cent from a year earlier as demand for electrical and electronic goods surged, but they were slower than June's 5 per cent year-on-year jump. ― Reuters
