KUALA LUMPUR, July 27 — Bursa Malaysia ended slightly lower at mid-day today in tandem with regional peers, dealers said.
At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 2.54 points or 0.15 per cent to 1,718.22, after moving between 1,710.97 and 1,718.60 throughout the session.
British American Tobacco topped the gainers list, chalking up RM1.28 to RM65.88, followed by TAHPS Group which rose 55 sen to RM8.60.
The broader market remained weak with 441 losers and 285 gainers, while 273 counters were unchanged, 825 untraded and 19 suspended.
Regionally, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng declined 646.88 points or 2.57 per cent to 24,481.63, Japan’s Nikkei 225 was down 240.91 points (1.18 per cent) to 20,301.61 and Singapore’s Straits Times was 29.20 points (0.84 per cent) lower at 3,325.11.
A dealer said the support for the local bourse had started to pick up with some buying in selected heavyweights.
Turnover stood at 1.29 billion shares valued at RM775.32 million.
On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index fell 17.59 points to 11,874.57, FBMT100 Index was 16.28 points lower at 11,542.94 and the FBM Emas Shariah slid 1.78 points to 12,343.89.
The FBM Ace fell 39.65 points to 6,517.05 and the FBM 70 eased 15.18 points to 12,844.61.
Sector-wise, the Finance Index decreased 71.50 points to 15,476.86, the Plantation Index inched down 11.83 points to 7,412.38 and the Industrial Index eased 1.15 points to 3,181.37.
Among actives, Ikhmas Jaya, which made its debut today on the main market of Bursa Malaysia, gained 20.5 sen to 77.5 sen, iDimension Consolidated inched up two sen to 13 sen, The Media Shoppe was half-a-sen better at 6.5 sen while 1Utopia was flat at 4.5 sen.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank and Public Bank were flat at RM9.23 and RM19, respectively, and TNB and Axiata rose two sen each to RM12.30 and RM6.38, respectively. — Bernama
