KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session 0.28 per cent higher in line with regional bourses, which reacted positively to Wall Street’s record close last night.
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) ended the lunch break 5.03 points better at 1,803.49 after opening at 1,799.88. The benchmark index, which remained in positive territory, moved between
1,799.88 and 1,806.28 throughout the morning session.
However, losers led gainers 315 to 287 with 341 counters unchanged, 677 untraded and 48 others suspended. Volume stood at 707 million shares worth RM567.26 million.
A dealer said sentiment was boosted by an encouraging set of US economic data, bolstering optimism on the outlook for the world’s largest economy and corporate profits.
On the local front, British American Tobacco advanced 98 sen to RM62.98 while United Plantations surged 36 sen to RM26.56.
On the scoreboard, the Finance Index fell 23.76 points to 16,572.89, the Plantation Index was 6.88 points lower at 8,779.49 while the Industrial Index rose 3.73 points to 3,118.88. The FBM Emas Index added 33.34 points to 16,608.33, the FBMT100 Index rose 25.89 points to 12,251.34 while the FBM Ace lost 11.81 points to 5,638.46 and the FBM 70 eased 4.13 points to 14,170.33.
Bursa Malaysia today issued a query to DSC Solutions on unusual market activity over the recent steep rise in price and volume on the company’s stock. The counter was the most actively traded stock this morning but lost 5 sen to 26 sen, with 62.15 million shares traded at 12.30pm.
“Investors are advised to take note of the company’s reply to the query which will be posted at Bursa Malaysia’s website under the company announcements,” Bursa Malaysia said in a statement.
Among other actives, China Stationery gained 0.5 sen to 19.5 sen while both Asia Media and Sumatec lost 0.5 sen each to 9 sen and 30.5 sen respectively.
As for heavyweights, Maybank rose 7 sen to RM9.62 while CIMB and Sime Darby were unchanged at RM7.60 and RM9.64 respectively. — Bernama
