The rise was slightly higher than the 5.2 per cent median forecast in a Reuters poll.

Imports rose 2.8 per cent from the same month a year ago, compared with forecasts for 5.0 per cent growth.

The September trade surplus was RM8.7 billion (US$2.73 billion), according to data from the Statistics Department, the biggest since November 2012.

Economists had forecast a trade surplus of RM6.5 billion, narrower than July’s RM7.1 billion. — Reuters
