KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia were traded firmer at mid-morning on persistent buying support, with gains mostly seen in the oil and gas-related stocks, dealers said.

At 11.08am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI rose 11.1 points to 1,814.68, after fluctuating between 1,805.64 and 1,815.02.

Petronas Gas surged 84 sen to RM23.70, SapuraKencana chalked up 19 sen to RM4.27 while Petronas Dagangan surged 70 sen to RM31.00.

All these counters contributed to a total of 6.298 to the benchmark index.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index rose 21.96 points to 16,857.07, the Plantation Index gained 29.77 points to 8,458.78, and the Industrial Index increased 22.56 points to 3,122.92.

The FBM Emas Index chalked up 59.39 points to 12,617.48, the FBMT100 Index soared 61.18 points to 12,346.42, the FBM 70 was 11.96 points higher at 14,358.73, and the FBM Ace added 9.81 points to 5,572.77.

Gainers overwhelmed losers 382 to 219, with 284 counters unchanged, 738 untraded and 15 others were suspended.

Volume stood at 701.536 million shares worth RM567.629 million.

Among actives, China Stationery added one sen to 23 sen, Sumatec inched up half-a-sen to 9.5 sen and Xidelang gained two sen to 37.5 sen.

For the heavyweights, both Maybank and Axiata Group earned one sen each to RM9.96 and RM6.92, respectively, CIMB rose three sen to RM7.62, and Petronas Chemicals gained two sen to RM7.13.

Sime Darby, however, was flat at RM9.58. — Bernama
