KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 — The Energy Commission (EC) does not have the power to unilaterally increase quotas and/or originate or make changes to any policy direction pertaining to the Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP).

The commission said policy direction and directives are under the purviews of the minister-in-charge and the authority to increase the quota to 800 megawatts (MW) from 600 MW vested with the Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Climate Change Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and was duly announced as such by the minister himself.

“The minister announced this during his speech on March 9, 2023 during the launch of the Malaysia Energy Transition Outlook on that date.

“He further announced that the timeline for the take-up of this increased quota of 800 MW is the earlier of the end of this year or until the full allocation of that quota based on successful applications,” EC said in response to the release of the latest updated guidelines on the CGPP on April 7 and media report on April 8.

It said with the quota increase announcement by the minister, there were also further necessary consequential refinements to the guidelines, which was delegated to the commission by the minister for execution.

“Given such refinements, the extension of time for submission of applications is to provide both the solar power producer and the corporate consumer due preparatory time to understand the latest guidelines and make any necessary alterations to their submissions thereto.

“We take this opportunity to remind all hopeful applicants that applications can only be received on or after 10am on May 9, 2023 and not prior to this time,” it said.

It added that those who breached this would be asked to resubmit their application in a compliant fashion after the designated time for receipt of applications. — Bernama
