KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 ― The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance’s (Muda) Amira Aisya Abd Aziz today said winning the Puteri Wangsa state seat in the Johor state elections is not the end goal or the end of the race, but marks the beginning of her service for the voters there.

Amira Aisya, who is also Muda’s secretary-general, is leading with a huge majority and pipped to be the winner of the state seat in the face-off with five other candidates, based on unofficial vote counts.

In a press conference streamed live on Muda’s Facebook page, Amira Aisya said the win would not be for herself, but is rather for those who had helped her campaign.

“This win is for all members of Muda and the win of my machinery who worked hard in campaigning, there were some who came from far, the furthest is from Sabah, campaigning for two weeks, many local machinery. The fight in Puteri Wangsa was not easy, we fought, but with the support of the whole team, we succeeded in getting the confidence of the public.

“Most importantly, the first goal is not to win, but to serve. This is not the end of my race. This is the start of my service in Puteri Wangsa, and I have big hopes, that at the same time, the people of Puteri Wangsa will rise up together with me,” the 27-year-old lawyer said.

Amira Aisya’s message echoed party president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who had earlier also declared Muda’s intention to usher in a new brand of politics known as service politics and that Muda intends to continue serving the people in Johor regardless of whether it won or lost in today’s state elections.

Amira Aisya, born in Johor Bahru, also noted that Muda managed to put up a good fight despite having new candidates, a new flag and a small election machinery, declaring: “We did not lose deposit in any seat at all.”
