KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 — The National Security Council will study whether the conditional movement control order (CMCO) remained necessary in some states, said Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said this was because the Covid-19 situation has improved in some areas.

Sabah and all states in the peninsula except Perlis, Pahang and Kelantan are under a CMCO.

“A special session of the National Security Council has heard proposals on the status of CMCO in several states where Covid-19 case have fallen or remained flat,” he said.

He added that the decision will be made on Friday.

Ismail Sabri said any decision on the CMCO would be based on the Health Ministry’s risk assessment of the individual states’ Covid-19 situation.

While the situation in the Klang Valley has worsened since the CMCO, other states have either improved or seen their new daily cases remain under control.

Some such as Opposition lawmakers have questioned the CMCO encompassing most of the peninsula, arguing that not all states were faced with critical Covid-19 case numbers.

Former deputy education minister Teo Nie Ching pointed out previously that the decision meant the disruption of schools even in areas considered Covid-19 green zones.

The CMCO is scheduled to last until December 9.
