KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof said he will decide on actions against the controversial cosmetic entrepreneur Muhammad Sajjad Kamaruz Zaman after the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has completed its probe.
The de-facto Islamic affairs minister said this included a meeting with the businessman who is popularly known as Nur Sajat.
“I will only think about the next course of action after MCMC and the tour agency involved in the issue have taken necessary actions (relating to the matter),” he told reporters when met after distributing 360 bottles of hand sanitiser to 18 mosques in Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur today.
Mujahid was asked whether he would meet Muhammad Sajjad regarding the latter’s conducts while in Mecca.
Elaborating further, the minister said all pilgrims including Muhammad Sajjad must comply with all laws in Saudi Arabia while performing umrah or haj in the Holy Land.
“Saudi Arabia has stringent regulations regarding man wearing women’s clothes. He (Muhammad Sajjad) should have respected that,” he said.
In his statement yesterday, Mujahid said he had met with MCMC, asking the commission to take quick action against Muhammad Sajjad for causing uneasiness among Muslims after he uploaded his photos clad in women’s attire while performing umrah.
Mujahid also held a meeting with the tour agency, Albayt Travel (M) Sdn Bhd which handled Muhammad Sajjad and his family’s trip to Mecca.
Meanwhile in Putrajaya, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi said the ministry would call for a meeting with the tour agency soon.
“We will remind the agency to be more careful as it is their responsibility to ensure people they brought to Mecca abide by the laws of the land to protect our country’s good name and image,” he said after chairing Tourism Recovery Action Committee meeting today. — Bernama
