KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 ― The repeal of the Goods and Services Tax Bill 2018 was tabled by the Finance Ministry in the Dewan Rakyat for its first reading today.
It was listed as No. 1 in the Parliament Order Paper.
Other Bills tabled include the Sales Tax Bill 2018, Service Tax Bill 2018, Customs (Amendment) Bill 2018, and the Free Zones (Amendment) Bill 2018.
The second reading for the Bills are also expected to be tabled in the current Parliament sitting.
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng had on July 16 said the SST would be set at 10 per cent for sales and six per cent for services.
The GST was zero-rated effective June 1 from six per cent and will be replaced by SST on September 1.
The replacement of GST with the SST was one of the campaign pledges by Pakatan Harapan in its election manifesto.
